Rotary Screw Compressor Lubricant DESCRIPTION
Castrol Aircol MR 46 is formulated from a highly refined base oil with a carefully balanced complement of additives to provide improved oxidative and thermal stability. It also incorporates anti-wear additives to meet the requirements of Atlas-Copco, and similar types of compressor design.
APPLICATION
Castrol Aircol MR 46 compressor oil has been specifically developed to meet the requirements of oil-flooded rotary screw compressors operating continuously at air discharge temperatures up to 90ºC.
Castrol Aircol MR 46 therefore allows compressor operation over extended operating periods at high air discharge temperatures. Minimum oxidative thickening and excellent water rejection properties ensure these objectives can be achieved. Where compressor manufacturers specify oils for extended oil change periods Aircol MR 46 can be recommended. For intermittent or continuous operation with air discharge temperatures above 90ºC the manufacturers standard oil change periods should be used.
FEATURES BENEFITS S Low deposit formation tendency - Reduced fire and explosion potential
S Good air/oil separation properties at - Reduced risk of oil carry-over the separator element
S High anti-wear protection - Reduced wear and rotor 'shredding'
S Good water shedding properties - Reduced corrosion contamination
S Low foaming and good air release - Avoids oil carry-over
S Improved oxidation and thermal stability - Increased viscosity stability Extended oil separator element life Reduced fouling of coolers & pipes

When changing oils, experience indicates that a considerable proportion of old oxidised oil from previous changes can be left in pipework, coolers and gearboxes, etc. In order to obtain the full benefits of cleaner operation and extended life when using Castrol Aircol MR 46, the compressor should be drained completely and 'flush run' on the new charge for a period, subsequently drained and refilled with a second running charge. New oil filters and oil separator elements should always be fitted for the first change to Aircol MR 46.
